Members of Congress have introduced legislation that would transfer the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, sending a message of commitment and resolve to Israel and also presenting the US government with a cost-saving measure at a time of major budget cuts.

The bipartisan bill, known as the Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of the State of Israel Act (H.R. 2846), comes as Israelis and Palestinians are resuming peace negotiations after a three-year hiatus, and is intended to offer an unflinching sign of support on Capitol Hill for Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital.

The bill, which is being sponsored by Representatives Trent Franks (AZ-08), Brad Sherman (CA-30), Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Gene Green (TX-29), Juan Vargas (CA-51), is now being circulated among members of Congress.

The initiative is unique because it recommends that the United States government either repurpose the current Embassy property in Tel Aviv to a consulate, or sell the property, which has the potential to garner an estimated hundred million dollars at market value.

Labor MK calls on students to boycott Obama speech

March 18, 2013
Nachman Shai. (photo credit: Flash90)(Times of Israel) Labor MK Nachman Shai called on students to skip US President Barack Obama’s planned speech to the Israeli public, scheduled for Thursday night, citing the White House’s exclusion of Ariel University from a program to allow students to attend the Jerusalem address. Shai said the Student Union should protest the president’s decision to exclude the university by not attending the highly touted speech, to take place at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center. “Following the decision not to invite students from Ariel to the US President’s speech in Israel, I demand that the Student Union inform President Obama that they will not attend his lecture on Thursday,” Shai wrote on his Facebook wall. The US Embassy said it was not boycotting Ariel University, located in the eponymous settlement deep inside the West Bank, but rather was only offering tickets to the speech to schools with which it has a partnership. Ariel became a university last year after a highly contested political fight. But Shai said the US was boycotting Ariel students because of where they study. “It is shocking to think that you can disqualify students just because they learn in the West Bank. I do not understand how President Obama wants to conduct a dialogue with the Israeli public when he is consciously excluding part of it,” he said. Ariel, a settlement with 20,000 residents in the northern West Bank, has historically been a sticking point in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Israel hopes to keep the settlement in the event of a final-status agreement, while the Palestinian Authority would like to see it evacuated. The decision to grant Ariel University full university status last year was internationally criticized. Last week, Jewish Home MK Yoni Chetboun berated Obama on Israel Radio for choosing to address the Israeli public at Jerusalem’s Convention Center rather than the Knesset, and for inviting students from all universities except the West Bank-based Ariel to attend. Students at Ariel have also expressed dismay at their exclusion from the speech. “We were pretty shocked about the discrimination and the way in which they are giving up on a university in Israel,” said Ariel University Student Union head Shay Shahaf, according to Ynet News. Shahaf and other Ariel students plan to protest outside the convention center during Obama’s speech.

(I’m sure you all recognize Yasser Arafat on the left, but do you recognize his buddy on the right?)Here’s a video of Sunday’s Face the Nation, featuring Tom Friedman on a panel discussing the Iranian nuclear threat. Note Tom’s comments between 7:51 and 9:03.(A ONE TRICK PONY) The man is more ‘Palestinian’ than the ‘Palestinians.’ He is simply obsessed. He doesn’t recognize anything else. Progressives will eat each other like cannibals in the end…

Time to call Obama’s bluff on Israel

November 6, 2011

(Israel Matzav) This past week, the Obama administration was forced to cut off funding to UNESCO because of a clear US statute, which was passed during the administration of George H.W. Bush (not exactly a friend of Israel) and amended during the Clinton administration, which requires the United States to cut off funding to any United Nations agency that recognizes a state of ‘Palestine’ except as a result of negotiations. Obama wanted to get out of it. He wanted to continue funding UNESCO. But under American law, he can’t, and with the Republicans in control of the House, there is no way he can get that law changed. The UN law has no out for ‘national security.’
On the other hand, every six months, Obama uses the national security excuse to avoid moving the US embassy to Jerusalem. Clinton and George W. Bush both did the same thing, but Obama removed from the statement issued every six months the phrase that says that the administration remains committed to moving the embassy to Jerusalem.
Yet, Obama, as he stands for reelection, tries to convince us all that he is committed to Israel. It is time to call him on his ‘commitment.’
It is time to introduce a bill in Congress to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. Simple and straightforward. NO NATIONAL SECURITY OUT. You have one year to move the embassy to Jerusalem. Period. The House, which is dominated by Republicans, will vote in favor. The Senate, which has a whole bunch of Democrats who are up for reelection, will fear for its political life and vote in favor. Will Obama veto the bill? In 2012 when he is up for reelection?

it is also important to get all candidates committed to moving the embassy… and also get their opinion on television so that the public can know where they stand on the issue and the issue becomes accepted common knowledge. moving the embassy is symbolic and part of the symbolism is to create as much publicity to the issue as possible. So far we have to my knowledge Newt and Cain… and if I am mistaken then the other candidates can correct me… which is something I would like them to do.

British Muslims hold funeral for bin Laden outside American Embassy

May 7, 2011

Yesterday, followers of the Religion of Peace™ decided to descend on Central London in which to hold a funeral procession for OBL. For some strange reason, they ended their march outside the US Embassy. But the thing I noticed is that for a so called funeral procession, not only did they not conduct themselves in a dignified manner, but the message they sent out (with their placards and such) had nothing to do with the death of their so called hero:
