Star Trek style ‘tractor beam’ created by scientists

January 25, 2013

(BBC)A real-life “tractor beam”, which uses light to attract objects, has been developed by scientists. It is hoped it could have medical applications by targeting and attracting individual cells. The team at the University of St Andrews worked with colleagues at the Institute of Scientific Instruments (ISI) in the Czech Republic. In science fiction programmes such as Star Trek, tractor beams are used to move massive objects towards a light source. The tractor beam is very selective in the properties of the particles it acts on, so you could pick up specific particles in a mixture.” “Eventually this could be used to separate white blood cells, for example.” Usually when microscopic objects are hit by a beam of light, they are forced along the direction of the beam by the light photons. That radiation force was first identified by the German astronomer Johannes Kepler in 1619 when he observed that tails of comets always point away from the Sun. Dr Cizmar’s team’s technique allows for that force to be reversed which he said some people might find counter-intuitive. “It’s surprising,” he said. “Only when we looked in detail at the process did we see the reversal. It’s quite a narrow field it occurs at.” “Unfortunately there is a transfer of energy. On a microscopic scale that is OK, but on a macro scale it would cause huge problems. “It would result in a massive amount of heating of an object, like a space shuttle. So trapping a space ship is out of the question.”

Star Trek Elder of Zeon

November 7, 2011
(israellycool.com) From this 1968 Star Trek episode:This episode is now in the news since it is about to be aired in Germany for the first time. In case you are wondering: The similarity between the name “Zeon” and the word Zion is no accident. Throughout the episode the Nazis spew insults at the Zeons and refer to the “Final Decision,” clearly hinting at the Nazis’ Final Solution.

Elder of Zeon
Sounds like a great name for a blog. also, btw… a great episode that also deals with the Nazis is the one with Joan Collins as Edith Keeler in The City on the Edge of Forever. [PREVIEW] I have a hunch (but can’t prove it) that this will be the plot line for the next movie. The episode isn’t just great… it is one of the best written stories in Sci Fi history written by Harlan Ellison.

Enough of this humane war! Enough of the compassionate war! Let the Horror begin!

September 17, 2011

I don’t want any more humane wars. I want war to be cruel and bloody… the way it is supposed to be. There is no incentive to avoid war if we are always going to Nation Build. People like Ron Paul talk about the free market as being natural, but then he fails to realize that the fear of bloodshed and horror is what keeps us from war. If we fight our wars compassionately then we will continue to not try to avoid conflict. Such institutions like the Red Cross and the Geneva convention has made war pragmatic and clean… or at least for the party that has greater chance of attrition. Where was the Red Cross during the Holocaust? Let there be blood! Let there be fatality so that when some angry horde gets beaten they don’t come back for more.

Star Trek – A Taste of Armageddon

(Wikipedia) In the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “A Taste of Armageddon“, people who were deemed war casualties by the government of Eminiar VII were required to enter suicide booths. Treaty arrangements require that everyone who is calculated as “dead” in the hypothetical thermonuclear war simulated using computers actually dies, without actually damaging any infrastructure. In the end, the computers are destroyed, the war can no longer be calculated in this way, the treaty breaks down, and faced with a real threat, (presumably) peace begins.

yes I can doubt a narrative without rejecting g-d

How hateful to me are the enemies of your Scripture! How I wish that you would slay them (the Jews) with your two-edged sword, so that there should be none to oppose your word! Gladly would I have them die to themselves and live to you!

Islam wants to kill me… it said so, but I do not believe Jesus thinks it is clockwork because I don’t have some one else’s answers as to the meaning of life. when things are clear, the messiah will be here… till that point a good messiah would never bully those who don’t know the answer to questions.

if Jesus is blackmailing me then he is no better then Mohammed. I like to think better of him then that and I certainly would never follow a religion that strictly enables murderers of innocent people that I have nothing to do with.that sounds like an ugly form of Christianity and I know there are many believers of Jesus who know better.

this man was insinuating that until we accept Jesus that we will be on the run from Islam. (see conversation linked above) I refuse to believe that Jesus would need anything. He doesn’t need me to know what I can’t observe and he doesn’t need a star ship to travel in… and he isn’t going to blackmail me either. till the end of time… I will not know and a g-d I love would never punish me for not accepting a narrative. my g-d is not punishing me with Islam, my g-d is working to free us of what is blackening his reputation.
