Released for Gilad Shalit: the Butcher of Ramallah, and other "heroes" of the "Palestine"

Nurzhitz and Avrahami were lost and were stopped and arrested by Palestinian police. who ripped these Israelis apart limb by limb with a Palestinian mob, then showed their bloody hands through the window to the ecstatic Palestinians outside. Abdel-Aziz Saleh AKA Abed El-Aziz Salha AKA Aziz Salha AKA known as the “Butcher of Ramallah,” are part of the terrorist exchange for Gilad Shalit.

The lynchings of Vadim Norzich and Yosef Avrahami constituted one of the most shocking terrorist acts of the so-called “Aqsa intifada.” (Even if it was underplayed in the media.) Shortly after the lynching, Norzich’s uncle and family made aliyah. Upon his return home, Salaha, who proudly displayed his victims’ blood, will be greeted as a hero. One society seeks to rebuild that which is destroyed; the other celebrates the destruction. One can rail about “settlements” and lack of contiguity, but until Palestinian society is more concerned with being productive than destructive, there won’t be peace.

1) She keeps the home fires burning

The LA Times has a touching story about Raeda Omjamal, who awaits the return of her husband Rawhi Mushtaha, one of the 1027 prisoners whom Israel plans to release in the deal to gain the release of hostage, Gilad Shalit.

Omjamal was 23 years old, a freshly transplanted Palestinian refugee from Jordan who only met her husband two months before their wedding. The had another six months after the marriage. Now, at 47, Omjamal is preparing to welcome her husband back home after seeing him only once during 24 years of incarceration. Though they exchanged occasional messages and letters through attorneys, personal visits were mostly prohibited. Today, the young, bearded fighter she married in 1988 is a gray-haired, wrinkled stranger. Asked how it will feel to live in the same house again, she laughed and turned red, noticeable even though a pale green veil covering most of her face.

Worst of all was this sentence:

Israel called him a murderer for his role in helping to run Hamas’ military operations.

He was involved in an organization that murdered (Palestinians) and was convicted. The New York Times in Israel Releases Names of 477 Prisoners to Be Freed in Trade is a little less sentimental and doesn’t spend time on Omjamal’s sentimental regrets:

The list includes Rawhi Mushtaha and Yehya Sinwar, two founders of Al Majd, a forerunner of Hamas’s military wing. Al Majd killed Palestinian collaborators, cracked down on behavior regarded as immoral and gathered weapons. Both were arrested in early 1988, less than two months after the outbreak of the first Palestinian uprising and the formal creation of Hamas by Sheik Ahmed Yassin. Mr. Mushtaha, 52, was serving four life sentences for murder through an act of terror, military exercises, manslaughter and incitement. His wife, Raeda, wearing a full face niqab veil, confirmed Sunday that her husband was a founder of Al Majd. Asked if he regretted his actions she said, “No.” Speaking from her Gaza City home, she continued: “Rawhi is with Hamas until we restore all our Islamic holy places and the return of refugees. Our method and path is resistance. We will not lay down weapons, because resistance is a legitimate right for any people fighting for their freedom.”

Interesting statement about that lack of regret. I couldn’t find this elsewhere, so I have to (regretably) use Al Jazeera as a source. What is one of the terms of release?

“They will have to sign a declaration that he or she will not be involved in terrorist activities any more, but after that, there is no monitoring,” Emi Talmor, director of the Israeli justice ministry’s pardons department, told Al Jazeera.

That quote – if it accurately conveys Mushtaha’s feelings – would be a repudiation of that declaration wouldn’t it? (I’ve been informed that the declaration is a formality; with no legal significance. The Al Jazeera article is interesting in that it says that the released terrorists will be monitored. Will Israel take any action if they travel to a prohibited area?) The New York Times associates Mushtaha with Al Majd, effectively acknowledging his guilt and not just attributing it to an Israeli declaration. For a description of what Mushtaha did, here’s a 1993 op-ed from the New York Times, The Hamas way of death. Israel found a training tape of Hamas, and the New York Times thought it was newsworthy enough to publish.

At first, every collaborator denies his crimes. So we start off by showing the collaborator the testimony against him. We tell him that he still has a chance to serve his people, even in the last moment of his life, by confessing and giving us the information we need. We say that we know his repentance is sincere and that he has been a victim. That kind of talk is convincing. Most of them confess after that. Others hold out; in those cases, we apply pressure, both psychological and physical. Then the holdouts confess as well. Only one collaborator has ever been executed without an interrogation. In that case, the collaborator had been seen working for the Border Guard since before the intifada, and he himself confessed his involvement to a friend, who disclosed the information to us. In addition, three members of his network of collaborators told us that he had caused their isqat. With this much evidence, there was no need to interrogate him. But we are very careful to avoid wrongful executions. In every case, our principle is the same: the accused should be interrogated until he himself confesses his crimes.

So anyone who became “inconvenient” could be denounced for helping Israel and then judged and executed.
2) Blood on his hands
There was an expression that Israel would not release terrorists with “blood on their hands.” It was a figure of speech, meaning that at one point Israel would never free any terrorists who had actually killed Israelis. That line has long ago been crossed, and given that the sentences Israel is ending early add up to thousands of years, quite a few murderers are being freed in order to free Gilad Shalit. But according to Ynet, Israel will be releasing the terrorist who literally had blood on his hands. (h/t Baltimore Jewish Life)

On the one hand, the bereaved brother says, the family is happy for the parents and siblings who will see their son Gilad Shalit come home. “On the other hand, our family is angry that nobody cared about our sensitivity. No one (in the government) experienced our pain,” he said. The painful monologue above belongs to Michael Norzich, brother of Vadim, who was murdered by a mob in Ramallah in the year 2000. Michael said that no one called to tell him that one of the murderers of his brother is included in the list of 477 prisoners who will be released as part of the first phase of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal. Abed Alaziz Salaha, who was photographed in the horrific photo with his hands covered with blood in what has become the symbol of the second intifada, was sentenced to life in prison but is expected to be released on Tuesday.


Arab MK calls on Israeli Arabs to initiate third intifada

(JPost) MK Otniel Schneller (Kadima) renewed calls Wednesday to strip MK Haneen Zoabi (Balad) of her parliamentary immunity after she was quoted in a local newspaper as calling on Palestinians to start a third intifada.
Zoabi told a reporter that “I hope [the Palestinians] will start a large popular struggle that is political and strategic, similar to the first intifada and not the second.” She explained that “the second intifada was more violent, while the first was good. Tahrir Square in Egypt must be the new model for Arab youth – I would like them to initiate a popular struggle against the siege, because occupiers cannot expect to live normal lives.”
In response, Schneller said Zoabi should be stripped of her parliamentary immunity and put on trial for calling for rebellion.
“Zoabi crossed the line a long time ago, and democratic immunity cannot be allowed to continue to harm the State of Israel and its citizens,” he complained. “I intend to demand that Knesset legal advisor Eyal Inon probe her statements, and if there have in fact been calls to rebellion, to strip her immunity and try her.”

Violent Intifada page Removed

A month after the launch of a Facebook group calling for a third Intifada,

Minister of Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein sent a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg Wednesday, demanding that the page calling a Palestinian uprising be shut down immediately.

The Facebook group was launched less than a month ago with the number of members growing dramatically, with nearly 250,000 people expressing support for launching a third Intifada on May 15, marked by Arabs as Nakba Day – a day where Palestinians mark the “catastrophe of Israel’s establishment.”

The founders of the Facebook group claim that they got the idea for the page from the recent uprisings throughout the Middle East that led to the ousting of the Tunisian and Egyptian leaders and the fall of their regimes.

There is no need to explain what the outrageous incitement on the page in question can cause – from harming innocent Jews and Israelis and through to an armed struggle against Israel, Minister Edelstein wrote in a letter to the founder of the popular social network.

Group’s goal: Israel’s downfall

In his letter, Edelstein stressed that he wasn’t writing in his official capacity but as someone who shares the values of freedom of expression, and said he believed that there must be a discernable difference between freedom of expression and freedom to incite.

The founders of the group hope that a popular uprising like those that broke out in the Arab world would also bring about the downfall of the State of Israel, with the help of groups supporters in the Palestinian Authority and countries bordering on Israel.

Muslim boycott

The group’s doctrines include a call for simultaneous protests on the Jordanian, Egyptian and Syrian borders while Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza will launch attacks on Israeli settlements. Moreover, they ask for “the help of our brothers in Lebanon” who will assist by raining missiles down on Israel.

Since its launch, the Facebook group has received a great deal of coverage in the Palestinian and Arab media. Its founders, who remain anonymous, warned Facebook that shutting down their page would lead the Muslim world to boycott Facebook.

It seems that the threat did little to impress the site managers as one of the group’s founders who calls himself “Son of Palestine” reported calls for violence.

Son of Palestine also accused Facebook’s management team of forging the number of supporters the group has, claiming that the number is much higher than 250,000.

Calls on Facebook for Palestinian Millions to Return to Their Homes in Israel on May 15, 2011

Over the past weeks, a number of Facebook pages have been launched calling on the Palestinians in Israel and abroad to hold mass demonstrations on May 15, 2011, the 63rd anniversary of Nakba Day (the establishment of the State of Israel).  The plan is for millions of Palestinian refugees to march en masse in return to the original homes of their families in Israel. The campaign is being referred to as “The 2011 March of Return,” “The Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution,” “The Advance of the Millions,” and even “The Third Palestinian Intifada.” Some of the Facebook pages stress that the activities are meant to be peaceful and unarmed, while others hint at violence and armed resistance. As of this writing, the Facebook pages promoting the initiative have more than 350,000 “likes” and members, though it is unclear how many of these are Palestinians and where they are from. Additionally, following a period of silence on the part of Palestinian officials, the initiative has gained the support of the PLO Department of Expatriate Affairs, which has called on Palestinians living abroad to participate in the march and to publicize it among the Palestinian communities and organizations worldwide.[1] The administrators of the Facebook pages have posted timetables to coordinate the event and called for the information to be circulated among Palestinians and their supporters everywhere, while stressing the moral and legal right of the refugees to return to their homes. Calls were also made for demonstrations and sit-down strikes in the Palestinian territories along the borders with Israel, and in Jerusalem.

The Campaign Organizers: The Refugees Have an Absolute Right to Return to Palestine

The administrators of the Facebook pages promoting the May 15 initiative explained that the Palestinian refugees had a moral and legal right to return to their homes in Palestine, and that the current situation in the region – the unrest throughout the Arab world and the internal problems in Israel – would facilitate the success of the event. The page titled “The 2011 March of Return,” which currently has more than 4,800 “likes,” said: “The goal of  [our Facebook] group… is to organize a march of millions, who, on May 15, 2011, will realize the Right of Return to Palestine in deed as well as in word. [The marchers] will set out from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, penetrate the borders of Palestine, and return to [their] land… The Right of Return is a legal, political, human, moral, and religious right that is irrevocable and unlimited in time, and all must work toward realizing it. We call for the realization of this right through the mass return of millions of Palestinians to historical Palestine, such that every refugee and displaced person will return to his land and to the home from which he was expelled. This will be the first step toward implementing [U.N.] Resolution 194, which will be followed by further steps, such as awarding reparations to the returned refugees and recognizing their rights.”[2]

The page titled “The Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution (The Advance of the Millions),”[3] which currently has over 1,300 members, stated: “The time has come to realize our historical dream to return to Palestine. The nation is undergoing an unprecedented noble [awakening] that enables such an historic leap. The Zionist entity is in a state of weakness, collapse, and loss of vision, which entices us to aim focused blows at it, in order to topple its racist enterprise, which contradicts the values of religion and morality.”[4]

The page called “The Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution,”[5] currently with more than 5,000 “likes,” posted a message from the “Preparation Committee for the Revolution of the [Return] to the Homeland”: “We will reach out our hand and build a bridge that will bring us to our green land, to our territorial waters, to the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, to our desert,… to the beautiful Galilee, to Jerusalem, our proud capital, to the neighborhoods of Nablus, Ramallah, and Jenin, to the hills of Lod and Ramla, and to all the [other] places… We will return, and soon. Long live our cause. May the state of the sons of Zion fall. We will die, but Palestine will live. Palestine is ours.”[6]

The Facebook page “The Third Palestinian Intifada,”[7] which, within weeks of its launching, has almost 340,000 “likes,” posted a message saying: “Palestine, how we have neglected you. Forgive us and forgive our sons for this. You have always inspired us to be steadfast in the struggle to keep you a free and Arab [land],… as you [always] were and always will be… After the Tunisian, Egyptian, and Libyan intifadas, the time has come for the Palestinian intifada. The first Palestinian intifada was in 1987 and the second in 2000, but the third Palestinian intifada [will commence] on May 15, 2011.”[8] 

It should be noted that, while urging the public to join the mass demonstrations on May 15, the page administrators also hinted at a coming war on the Jews and called on the readers to prepare for martyrdom. For example, they posted a well-known hadith, which states that the Day of Judgment will only come after the Muslims fight the Jews and vanquish them: “The hour [of Judgment] will not come before the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them. All the trees and all the stones will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him – except for the Gharqad tree, which is the tree of the Jews.” The site administrators remark, “That is why the Jews have been planting a lot of Gharqad trees lately!”. In another message, an administrator states: “Paradise calls you. I ask everyone to come out on May 15. Do not say ‘I can’t.’ For once [in your life], at least, do something to help the Muslims… Martyrdom calls you.”

A Public Opinion Campaign

In anticipation of the May 15 return of the refugees, the Facebook campaigners are making efforts to publicize the initiative, establish its legal basis, and coordinate it by setting up timetables, meeting points, and planned routes of advance. The pages’ members called to publicize the march throughout the Arab and Islamic world and help it succeed. The info page of “The Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution (The Advance of the Millions)” called on European Muslims to join the initiative: “The Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim brothers living in Europe have a special responsibility to immediately launch a [publicity] campaign by rallying [the people], and by informing world public opinion of the great historical oppression that the Palestinian people are suffering, and of the manner of the activity planned.”

On the page “The Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution”, a communiqué from the “Preparation Committee for the Revolution of the Return of the Palestinian Refugees” detailed some of the legal and publicity measures that have been taken in preparation for the march: A committee of Palestinian experts and jurists has been formed to establish the legal basis of the Right of Return, as well as a publicity committee to spread word about the activity, and a committee of Hebrew speakers to inform the Israeli public of the Palestinians’ right to return to their homes. It has also been decided to establish local committees wherever there are Palestinian refugees, to coordinate the efforts and rally the public. Also, an English-language Facebook page has been launched to promote the campaign in the West.[9]

The administrators of the “Third Palestinian Intifada” page called to spread word of the campaign by writing “Arab Intifada for the Liberation of Palestine, May 15, 2011” on cash.[10]

This page’s administrators also made considerable efforts to promote the page itself: They urged its supporters to publicize it throughout the Internet and persuade their friends to join it, in order to reach one million “likes” as quickly as possible, and declared that other popular Arab Facebook pages had agreed to help publicize their page. The administrators also threatened Facebook, saying that if it closed down their page, “all Muslims will boycott Facebook forever.”[12]  Shortly afterwards, they reported that the company was indeed trying to shut the page down, to impede its functioning, and even to erase names of supporters. They appealed to the Al-Jazeera channel, which aired an item about this. The administrators claimed that the “Free Palestine” page, with 216,000 “likes,” had been closed down by Facebook.

The Plan of Action

The page administrators have suggested detailed plans of action to be implemented before and during the May 15 march, stressing that all activity is to be non-violent. The info page of the “Palestinian Refugees’ Revolution (The Advance of the Millions)” said: “We can recruit millions to march in eight fronts, in order to confuse the enemy and [force it to] divide its forces. The [fronts will be:] the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, the Inside Palestinians [i.e., Israeli Arabs], the refugees in Lebanon from the Lebanese border, the refugees in Syria from the Syrian border, the refugees in Jordan from the Jordanian border, the refugees of Europe via the sea in hundreds of ships, and international activists, [who] can demonstrate their solidarity from the Sinai front. Our Egyptian brothers… can support us by [organizing] a march of five million Egyptians, which will advance toward the Palestinian border from Sinai, under the slogan of peaceful solidarity with the rights of the Palestinian people… It would be best for the marches to be lead by old men and women who witnessed the Nakba. They do not lack enthusiasm to participate in and realize the dream of their lives – to be buried in the soil of their homeland. We must [also] recruit as many foreigners [i.e., non-Arabs] as possible from across the world to lead the marches, in order to create difficulty for the Zionists…”

Regarding the manner in which the march was to be conducted, the page said: “We must keep this activity free of all ideological and factional [conflict]. We must hold up the Palestinian flag only, so that the presence of [various] factions will not be used [against us] by the Zionists and the West. We must make sure that the [march] proceeds peacefully, without arms, with slogans in all the languages [emphasizing the] human [aspect of the struggle], such as ‘I Want to Return to My Home,’ and while holding aloft the keys of the homes from which our families were exiled…  We must completely avoid slogans like ‘Destroying the Zionist Entity’ or ‘Throw [the Zionists] into the Sea,’ so as not to turn the world against us, and in order to rally [everyone around] the goal, namely to return to the homes from which we were expelled, nothing more. That is a human and moral slogan that can rally all the people of the world to our assistance.”

The page administrator expressed a hope that the latest developments in the Arab world would contribute to the success of the initiative: “The situation in the region may convince the leaders of the countries surrounding [Israel] to refrain from opposing the advance of the millions, out of awareness that [such opposition] could cause the struggle to spill over [to their own countries] and bring about their downfall. [In fact,] they might allow the millions [to march] and ride the wave [of our protest] in order to stay in power… And even if they do not allow this, there is no force on the face of the earth that can withstand the determination of the people, and [the leaders] will end up the losers…”[13]

The “Third Palestinian Intifada” page posted a detailed plan of action for May 13-15, 2011, as follows. After the March 13 Friday prayers, the Palestinians and their supporters will gather in mosques and squares throughout Israel, in the Palestinian territories, and across the world, waving the Palestinian flag and burning the Israeli flag. On the following day, the Palestinians and their supporters will gather at the starting points of the march: In the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, they will gather in the mosques and squares of the cities; in “the 1948 territories,” they will meet at the main mosques; in the countries bordering Israel, the starting points will be in various locations near the border; and in other Arab lands, protesters will gather at the Palestinian consulates. In Turkey, activists will gather in hundreds of ships, ready to set sail toward Israel; and in the rest of the world, including Europe and the US, demonstrators will rally in front of the Israeli embassies.        

On Sunday, May 15, after the noon prayers, “the holy advance will start and the Intifada will be ignited… On this day, all the returning [refugees] will set forth, and the Third Palestinian Intifada will commence, with the support of all the free people in the world.” The page lists the destinations of the march: In the West Bank, participants will march on the checkpoints and settlements; in Gaza, on the checkpoints and border crossings; within “the 1948 territories,” toward cities and villages destroyed in the 1948 war; in Lebanon, toward Palestine by land and by sea; in Jordan, toward three areas on the border; in Syria, towards the Golan border; in Egypt, toward the Rafah border and toward the coast of Palestine by ship. Ships will also set sail for Palestine from Turkey and Europe, and demonstrations will be held in front of Israeli embassies worldwide.[14]

Call on “Jewish Settlers” in Israel to Return to Their Countries of Origin

A post on the “March of Return 2011” page by Allord Alis (who, it should be noted, is not the page administrator) ordered all Jews to evacuate Palestine: “All the families of Jewish settlers in the Galilee area, including in the areas of Safed, Tiberias, and all the way down to Acre, must proceed to the port of Haifa and board ships back to their countries of origin in Europe, before March 13, 2011. The Jewish families that have settled in the villages and cities of the Palestinian coast, all the way down to the border with the Gaza Strip, must go to the port of Tel Aviv, and take ships back to their European countries of origin, before March 13, 2011… The droves of [Jewish] settlers in the capital of Jerusalem and in the central area, up to the border with Jordan, must proceed immediately to the ports of Haifa or Tel Aviv… and the families of Jewish settlers in the south must proceed immediately to the port of Eilat.” The message also warned that anyone trying to take “archeological artifacts [or anything belonging] to the Palestinian heritage, even a single ball of falafel, will be pursued and arrested by Interpol in his new place of residence.”[15] It is important to note that this post went all but ignored and that none of the other pages included calls for the Jewish citizens of Israel to leave the country.

In addition to Facebook pages launched in support of the May 15 initiative, others were recently launched calling for a range of additional activities against the Israeli occupation:

Marches and Demonstrations on Land Day

One page called to stage a “march of millions” on Land Day (March 30, 2011): Muslim and Christian Palestinians will set out from Ramallah and Bethlehem to pray at Al-Asqa and at the Tomb of the Sepulcher in Jerusalem.[16] The “Third Palestinian Intifada” page posted a plan for the Friday following Land Day (April 1, 2011), calling on all the Palestinian residents of the West Bank to march on the settlements and stage a day-long protest there, and on all the Israeli Arabs to march on Jerusalem and stage a day-long demonstration in front of the “Jewish settlements” in the city.[17]

“End the Occupation” Sit-In Demonstrations

The administrators of the popular Facebook page “Let’s End the Occupation”[18] suggested staging a long-term sit-in demonstration in front of Beit El (a large Jewish settlement in the West Bank) and in front of the Erez crossing, until the occupation ended. No specific time was set for commencing this activity. The page stated: “This is an initiative by a group of young people who do not represent any political stream. What inspired us to take this step was the resounding success of the Arab youth in the Arab homeland, who managed to fight their oppressors with real determination and real restraint, using methods of peaceful struggle that resonated with people and moved them to support [their cause]. The idea is to emulate the Tahrir Square [protests] in two main areas – Beit El and the Erez [crossing] – and to rally everyone to participate in a long-term sit-down demonstration until the end of the occupation.”

The message added: “We will start with a popular sit-down demonstration. We will put up tents in front of Beit El and the Beit Hanoun [Erez] crossing, and over time, the protest will spread to other areas. We do not want to use weapons of any kind. We want no flag or sign, except for our [Palestinian] flag. We will have a single slogan: ‘End the Occupation.’ We will put up our tents everywhere, and operate a radio station of the sit-down demonstration, broadcasting national songs not associated with any political faction. We will use pots and spoons to make a racket at night, and when we grow tired, we will blow whistles. We will not leave until the occupation leaves. We will draw [the attention of] the international and local media.”

The page listed the equipment that will be needed by participants in this protest: a cloth and some vinegar and lemon as protection from tear gas; an aluminum pot and goggles to protect from tear-gas bombs and rubber bullets; an olive branch to signify the peaceful character of the protest; cans of spray paint for spraying on the faceguards of the soldiers’ helmets in case of a confrontation; a sleeping bag and a first aid kit; water and soap for pouring on the tires of military jeeps to make them skid.

The administrators set out their demands: “An immediate and complete end to the occupation; unity among the Palestinians; a Palestinian state with complete sovereignty within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital; the right of return and reparations for the refugees and the right to self-determination [for the Palestinians as a whole]; the release of all Palestinian prisoners from the occupation’s jails; and reparations for the Palestinians for the years of occupation [they endured].” They added that, following the end of the occupation, they expected “free and fair elections to be held [among the Palestinians]; a free and independent economy that ensures a dignified existence to all, and [a government that rules] according to principles of transparency and accountability.”

A page titled “The Palestinian Revolution for Ending the Occupation 10-15-20” proposes to stage sit-down demonstrations on three dates: April 20, 2011 (the anniversary of the 1936 Arab Revolt in Palestine), May 15, 2011 (Nakba Day), and June 10, 2011 (the anniversary of the 1916 Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire). The protests are to take place “near checkpoints and at all points of contact with the occupation [in the occupied territories]; within the 1948 territories; in our sister Arab countries; in all the [countries] of the Palestinian diaspora across the world; and in front of American and Israeli embassies, wherever they exist. We will carry kitchen utensils and drum with them. Perhaps, for once, the world will hear our voices, and the Zionists will realize that their presence on our soil is unwelcome, and that this time it is we who are doing the talking.”[19]

Activity to End the Inter-Palestinian Schism

In recent weeks, there has also been much activity among young people on Facebook aimed at ending the schism between Fatah and Hamas, under the slogan “The People Want an End to the Schism.”[20] The online campaign was quickly translated into activity on the ground. On March 15, 2011, mass demonstrations took place in Gaza and the West Bank in demand for inter-Palestinian reconciliation, and smaller protests and sit-ins are still taking place.

The campaign and demonstrations were endorsed by officials from both Hamas and Fatah, and encouraged some of them to launch initiatives of their own: PA President Mahmoud ‘Abbas’s initiative to visit Gaza in order to establish a national unity government that will prepare the ground for presidential, parliamentary, and PNC elections;[21] PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad’s campaign for a national unity government, based on retaining the existing security and administrative infrastructures and arrangements until reconciliation is achieved;[22] and the initiative of Hamas Political Bureau Head Khaled Mash’al for a reconciliation based on opposition and jihad.[23]

It should be noted that while the call for reconciliation was endorsed by Palestinian officials, the initiatives for the refugees’ return were largely ignored by the officials (until their endorsement by the PLO Department of Expatriate Affairs, which may stimulate further official interest), and also received little attention from the Palestinian media.

When the leader of Palestine AKA Abbas AKA Abu Mazen speaks at the U.N., when he isn’t talking about his fake Piece, he is usually tipping his hat to Al Gore and the lemmings in America by talking about a clean environment. You would think with all the U.S tax payer dollars going to the Muslims in Israel to prop up a fictional Nazi State called Palestine that he would do something about this. …but the problem is that the Muslims don’t love their land. They just don’t want the Jews to have it.

According to a newly released report by Israel’s Environment Ministry, the streams in the Judea and Samaria area have been used as a means of discharging sewage by PA Arabs. The report cites reasons of a lack of sewage treatment facilities in the Palestinian Authority as well as the absence of a cooperation agreement between the PA and Israel as being the cause for this problem. Itche Meir, chairman of the Municipal Environmental Association of Samaria, confirmed in an interview to Arutz Sheva’s daily journal on Tuesday that the localstreams are contaminated and it is mostly due to Arab sewage. “The reality is that there is no sewage treatment in those Arab cities and villages, and sewage flows into streams, seeps into the ground and pollutes the mountain aquifer. This is damaging both to the environment as well as to natural sites.” Meir added that Israel does not have a plan to improve or change the situation. “One of the most serious problems is the lack of policy regarding cross-border nuisances,” he said. “We’re not the only case of two countries next to each other. The U.S. and Mexico agree who will take care of pollution, but our system is very complicated, especially since there is no border and everyone lives within each other. In Israel every citizen has a motivation to prevent pollution for future generations but for the Arabs this does not exist.” He expressed hope that the State comes to its senses on this issue. “It is our responsibility for the next generation to preserve our ground and water resources and to act to connect the PA cities to Israeli facilities. Unfortunately, since the Oslo Accords, we have met all our commitments to provide water and sewage purification, yet they do not do anything. There ought to be a link between water supply and our demand from them that they purify the sewage, but for political reasons we do not require it of them.” Meir said that he believes that there is also some damage deliberately being done by Arabs to nature. “This is a type of ecological Intifada,” he said. “They found out that this hurts us so they exploit it.”

It is now 10 years since the Mohammed al-Dura blood libel, an episode that epitomized the Muslim propaganda template and, by virtue of the nascent new media, was eventually exposed by Philippe Karsenty, among others.   If you don’t know much about the al Dura affair, in which Israel was blamed for the murder of 12 year old Mohammed al-Dura and staged and manipulated footage of the “atrocity” was shown around the world, inflaming the second intifada and demonizing Israel in the eyes of much of the world, you can peruse The Augean Stables dossier and watch this interview:

Our first interview is with a hero of our modern era — Philippe Karsenty, the French media analyst who exposed the Mohammed Al-Dura Fraud, which involved France 2, a French television network, broadcasting staged footage of Israeli soldiers allegedly killing a 12-year old Palestinian, Mohammed al-Dura, during a gun battle in Gaza in 2000. Philippe Karsenty

In 1839, the Russian novelist Mikhail Lermontov published A Hero of our Time, the tale of a melancholy romantic by the name of Grigory Pechorin. In the preface to the book, Lermontov explains that his protagonist is “a portrait, but not of one man. It is a portrait built up of our own generation’s vices.” Pechorin is presented as a self-indulgent cynic, prone to bouts of dejection, world-weariness and pre-Existential nihilism. “What do I expect from the future?” he asks, and replies, “nothing at all.”
It was my great privilege to meet recently another kind of “hero of our time,” one who has nothing in common with Pechorin with whom he differs in two crucial ways. To begin with, he most certainly is not a representative figure of our pusillanimous epoch but a singular presence, very much in the courageous mold of Geert Wilders, who holds the era to account. And secondly, there is nothing of the cynic about him; on the contrary, he is a man notable for his sense of justice, crusading energy, and his belief in the eventual triumph of the truth—a man who expects everything from the future.
I’m speaking of Philippe Karsenty, who delivered a talk in Montreal on October 13 of this year dealing with the infamous Mohammad al-Dura hoax perpetrated by France 2 TV. Karsenty, deputy mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine and director of the Paris-based analysis firm Media-Ratings, has become justly celebrated as the man who single-handedly defied the entire French media, political establishment and intellectual synod which closed ranks to defend the official version of what happened on September 30, 2000 at the Netzarim junction in Gaza. The episode and its aftermath are by this time widely known, but a brief recapitulation would not be out of place.
Jamal al-Dura, a native of Gaza, and his 12-year-old son Mohammad, were filmed supposedly caught in a crossfire between Palestinian operatives and Israeli soldiers at the Netzarim junction, approximately five kilometers from Gaza City. According to Israeli-French journalist Charles Enderlin, France 2 TV’s Jerusalem correspondent who edited and narrated the clip, and his cameraman Talal Abu Rhama who bore witness to the event, the Israelis deliberately targeted the two victims for a full forty-five minutes, wounding the father and killing the son. An expurgated version of the film circulated around the globe, and the international media, with scarcely an exception, condemned the Israelis as child killers. With the collusion of the Western press, the Palestinians had invented yet another martyr to grace their faux hagiography.
Indeed, it did not take long before Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish published his Requiem for Muhammad al-Dura, a piece of versified hogwash which became an instant hit and continues to this day to resonate. “Mohammad,” Darwish writes, “hunters are gunning down angels, and the only witness/is a camera’s eye…” Postage stamps commemorating the event were issued throughout the Islamic world, monuments were erected, the Second Intifada which had only just begun took on a second wind, journalist Daniel Pearl was beheaded in revenge and Israeli citizens were murdered in the streets by Palestinian suicide bombers. No one doubted the official story of Israeli barbarism and Palestinian innocence. Even the Israeli political and military establishment did not contest world opinion and issued a hurried apology. But there was a serious problem with the universally accepted transcript of the “firefight.” The only significant “shooting” was done by the camera crew.
It was soon revealed that France 2 TV possessed 27 minutes of tape but released only 59 seconds worth of material. Enderlin, who was not present at the Netzarim shootout but justified his reportage by saying that “the image corresponded to the reality of the situation,” insisted that portions of the film were too painful to reveal, enabling him to bury the outtakes. This, of course, rendered him complicit in what became a worldwide campaign of slander and disinformation, a modern blood libel in everything but name. A subsequent investigation conducted by the Israeli Defense Force arrived at the conclusion [1] that Israeli fire, coming from an oblique position, could not have produced the round bullet holes that pocked the wall against which the al-Duras were crouching. A forensic team from Germany, which examined the evidence in March 2002, went one better, determining from angles and trajectories that the soldiers manning the Israeli outpost could not possibly have shot the al-Duras, at least not in our familiar Euclidean world dominated by the laws of geometry and ballistics.

Saudi cleric announces visit to Jerusalem

Saudi cleric Sheik Mohammed al-Areefi has announced on his television show that he will visit Jerusalem next week to bolster Muslim claims to the city. (AP)

He has to show up to do that? Why doesn’t Shiek Mohammed al-Areefi just read his Quran? isn’t that his job? Any mention of Jerusalem in there? not at all. The closest it comes to a reference is in Sura 17:1, which refers to the “furthest mosque.” Today, many Arabs claim this is a reference to the Al Aqsa Mosque, the place where Allah supposedly took Mohammed for a journey and the site from which the prophet of Islam reputedly ascended into heaven. The current Arab uprising in Jerusalem is called the Al Aqsa Intifida and centers around this claim. The so called moderates of Fatah even go so far as to suggest that there never was a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

Mohammed died in 632 AD. At the time, Jerusalem was a Christian city. It was captured by Khalif Omar six years after Mohammed’s death. Prior to the capture, the Church of Saint Mary of Justinian stood on the Temple Mount. There was no mosque in the entire city. The Dome of the Rock was built in 691. Twenty years later, the Church of Saint Mary was converted into a mosque with the familiar dome on top. It was named Al Aqsa, so it would sound like the “furthest mosque” mentioned in the Koran. That’s the basis of the Islamic claim to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.

What makes Jerusalem so precious? The Jews. Mecca was sanctified by Islam, even though the black stone pre-existed the founding gesture, and Jerusalem was sanctified by Judaism. Subsequent religious claims to the city are accretions to the original consecration. Jerusalem is the Christian holy land because Jesus was a Jew. And Islam’s claim is based on a scriptural injunction to supersede Judaism and Christianity. If Muslim claims to Jerusalem are not religious they are inexplicable. Ramallah would be a more suitable capital of a Palestinian state that truly intended to live peacefully side by side with Israel. Why should the world be dragged into a fierce tug of war when there is enough for everyone… if, in fact, it is a question of legitimate aspirations. The Muslim claim to Jerusalem is staked on the Al Aqsa mosque and the gilded Dome of the Rock that dominate the Temple Mount (the French call it “l’esplanade des mosquées”). And if it is granted, the heart of our civilization will be broken. The precedent established in Jerusalem will be extended to Paris, New York, London, the Hague, Detroit, Washington D.C… wherever a mosque is built, Islam will extend its political sovereignty. It will be the end of separation of church and state, the end of religious and political freedom. Al Aqsa is built on the ruins of the Jewish Temple. Europeans—so eager to impose the division of Jerusalem– finally nixed plans for mega- mosques in Rome and London. But their long-delayed awakening is trumped by the anti-Zionism of the American president.

I mostly agree, however my understanding of Jerusalem is that it was a town before David captured it. That doesn’t make it any less our temple, but there is a reason the Ark was originally in Shiloh. Jerusalem was a Jebusite city.

That David showed respect for the Jebusites – even their property rights –
is clear from the description of how the Israelite king acquired a site
for a sacrificial altar. Although Araunah the Jebusite, possibly the
former ruler of the city, offers it to him free of charge, David insists
on paying for it:

Palestinians get que from Obama

Obama gave the signal that he supports Palestine no matter what is agreed. Jerusalem was never part of Bibi’s house freeze. Palestine does what it does when it gets the idea that they don’t have to compromise. Two State solution always sounded sketchy… but obviously Obama knows that isn’t his goal. There is no doubt that he is not an outside party in this conflict.

Palestinians mounted violent protests in Jerusalem on Tuesday and President Barack Obama’s Middle East envoy canceled plans to return to the region as a U.S.-Israeli crisis over Jewish settlement plans deepened.

Hundreds of rock-throwing Palestinians clashed with police in several locations in East Jerusalem, which Israel captured in a 1967 war along with the West Bank. Police responded with teargas and rubber bullets.

Israel built houses, civilian houses. Not army bases or nuclear missiles or walls. Houses that were not in conflict with any agreement with Clinton or Obama

Fatah’s military wing, the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, has demanded that the Palestinian Authority return its weapons in order to defend Jerusalem, after most of the organization members turned over their weapons to the PA as part of an amnesty agreement signed with Israel about two years ago. The Brigades said in a statement that the security forces in the West Bank were asked to release all detained fighers in order to let them join “the resistance against the occupation and the Zionist offensive.”
