Navy intercepts Irish-Canadian flotilla

November 4, 2011
(YNET) Navy forces take over Gaza-bound vessels after activists refuse to turn back or sail to port in Egypt; leads ships to Ashdod port

According to the IDF statement, the Navy informed the activists they can turn back and avoid breaking the blockade. They were also offered to sail to a port in Egypt.
The two vessels approached the Gaza Strip and were in close proximity to Israeli territorial waters. The Navy made initial contact with the ships, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said. IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz has ordered the Navy to stop the ships, but the takeover has yet to begin.
“The activists did not heed the Navy’s calls and refused to act according to the legal possibilities that stand before them. The vessels continue to make their way towards the blockade area,” the IDF said earlier on Friday.

One activist said that the Israeli ships were12 nautical miles from the flotilla ships, which is 45 NM from the Gaza coast.

Asked what their final destination was, the activists replied “the human compass” and later changed their answer to “betterment of humanity.”

One of the flotilla organizers said that the activists pledged in writing not to resist or confront Israeli naval forces.

“The two ships are close to Israel’s waters and their crew has been instructed not to resist naval forces who will attempt to stop them,” Denis Kosseim told AFP. “Our representatives have signed a document where they pledged not to resist in case Israeli forces board the ship. We hope they will be able to return unharmed,” Kosseim added.

The flotilla consists of one Canadian ship called Tahrir and an Irish yacht. On board the vessels are 27 activists, crewmen and journalists, including one Iranian reporter.

According to the organizers, the ships carry $30,000 worth of medical equipment for the people of Gaza.

Defense officials believe that the activists’ main aim is to cause provocation rather than help the Palestinians. Naval forces are planning to offer them to dock in Egypt or in the Ashdod Port and transfer the equipment to Gaza for them.
On Thursday, the ships were forced to slow down mainly due to stormy weather. “The last message we received from them was that they slowed down,” an activist in the West Bank told Ynet.

“They said they prefer reaching Gaza in the daytime, to maximize their media exposure,” they said.

Breaking: Turkish flotilla heading for Gaza?

November 2, 2011

(h/t Israel Matzav) A report just received on Twitter claims that there’s another Turkish flotilla headed for Gaza (Hat Tip: Earl Peacock via Twitter).

Flotilla heading for Gaza today consists of Irish boat MV Saoirse and Canadian vessel ‘Tahrir’. 15 people on Irish boat, 12 on Canadian

The source of that tweet is Mary Fitzgerald, a foreign correspondent for the Irish Times, who says that this has all been confirmed to her by the organizers.
She also notes that the Irish boat Saoirse is the same boat that flotilla organizers allege was sabotaged in a Turkish port in June.
They hope to be in Gaza by Friday. Should be a fun week. Heh.
UPDATE 6:37 PM
The full story is here. You will note the one thing it does not mention when discussing the Palmer Commission report, namely the fact that the Commission found that Israel’s blockade is completely legal.

Flotilla of fools to sail from Turkey at the end of Ramadan?

July 17, 2011

‘Israeli Arab’ weekly Kul al-Arab is reporting that the Greek government has agreed to release the yachts from the flotilla of fools to Turkey, and that Turkey will allow the flotilla of fools to sail from its harbors at the end of Ramadan (approximately August 31).  A member of the Turkish delegation to the second Freedom Flotilla told the Arab-Israeli weekly Kul Al-Arab that the Greek and Turkish governments have agreed that the flotilla ships, which Greece prevented from sailing to Gaza, will be transferred to Turkey, and sail towards Gaza at the end of Ramadan.  A member of the International Committee to Break the Siege of Gaza said that Turkish President Abudllah Gul approved this agreement after the failure of negotiations with Israel, in which Turkey demanded an apology and restitution payments for the events of the first Freedom Flotilla. Another activist said that Germany mediated between Greece and Turkey via Israel Matzav

hey Greece? WTF! a loophole here is not helping. these people are not trying to aid Gaza. They have made this very clear.  Also forgive my ignorance, but isn’t after Ramadan when the Muslims like to attack?  I’ve heard this before.

The flotilla and the Third Intifada

July 15, 2011

the true aim was actually spelled out by Adam Shapiro, co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement and a board member of the Free Gaza Movement (which is behind the flotilla), at a meeting last November at Rutgers university in New Jersey to raise money to fund an American flotilla boat.
This is what Shapiro said:

What we’ve been doing over the last ten years with the International Solidarity Movement,  Free Gaza, and all the other outgrowth organisations and movements and groups is to …work with Palestinian society to ramp up the resistance. This is all part of a Palestinian movement for Palestine…This is truly an international movement … It’s only Palestine, this cause that has been going on for over 60 years, that generates this kind of activism, this kind of resistance…
Free Gaza is but one tactic of a larger strategy, to transform this conflict from one between Israel and the Palestinians, or Israel and the Arab world…to one between the rest of the world and Israel[applause]
It’s not just the conflict, it’s not just the siege, it’s not just the home demolitions, it’s not just the wall on the West Bank, it’s not just the effort to continue to dispossess Palestinians of their land…it’s also the attempt to define a place where 20 per cent of the population is Palestinian, to define the land underneath their feet as Jewish, to further dispossess them and subject these people to permanent second third or fourth class citizenship…Free Gaza is a tactic…all of it is part of a strategy now to transform the conflict and internationalise it and really undermine Israel where it gets its most support…
Our ground is the whole world. And that’s where our resistance has to be. The whole world… We already have a third intifada. It’s going on right now. It’s going on all over the world. [my emphasis]

So from the horse’s mouth we learn that the prime aim of the flotilla is not to provide humanitarian supplies to Gaza. It is not even to protest Israel’s ‘siege’ of Gaza. It is instead a tactic in a campaign to undermine Israel itself on account of its 60-plus year existence as a Jewish state. In other words, the flotilla is part of a strategy designed to destroy Israel altogether.

…and so if this were really the case then all those legalities are not just a stunt. If their intent is malicious and not about aiding then we can expect the legal backlash against the flotilla to continue. more via Melanie Phillips

Court Documents Cement Flotilla Organizer’s Connections to Terror

July 6, 2011

Participants of the Gaza-bound flotilla claimed that Greece has offered them to ferry their humanitarian aid cargo to the Strip through the Ashdod or El Arish ports, in coordination with the United Nations.

Amin Abou Ibrahim, also known as Amin Abou Rashed, is one of the main organizers of the ”Freedom Flotilla 2″ and a founder of the ECESG, a central organization participating in the flotilla. Recently, the Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf cited Abou Rashed as the “brain behind the flotilla”, and noted that according to a Dutch journalist who had spent time with the flotilla organizers, Abou Rashed’s role as the flotilla’s main backer was kept secret until the ships all arrived to Greece. Earlier this year, Ma’an quoted him as simply a “campaigner” in an article about the upcoming flotilla.Abou Rashed was an active participant in last year’s flotilla as well. His name also came up during the prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation by the US government in 2007. The Holy Land Foundation is designated by the US Treasury as a Specially Designated National and banned by the EU for its direct financial and material support to Hamas. During the Holy Land Foundation trial, a letter was shown written by Abou Rashed to Akram Mishaal, a director of the Holy Land Foundation and a cousin of Hamas leader Khalid Mashaal. Nice Jewish boys work in Mossad

July 2, 2011

At least two of the Gaza flotilla ships were sabotaged. The latest incident involved removing underwater part of the transmission.
It testifies to Jewish mentality that the saboteurs chose to inflict minimum damage instead of sinking the boats which, among other benefits, would make insuring other boats next to impossible. via samsonblinded.org
