Jordan to Censor Websites

Jordanian blogger Gaith Saqer covered the news in English this afternoon on his blog Arab Crunch.

Critics of the ruling worry that the law will be widely applied to social media, possibly even SMS and to websites that allow reader comments to be posted. Supporters appear to argue that free speech comes with responsibilities along these lines and that the legal framework actually facilitates online communication.

Saqer contacted Google regarding this new front in the battle over censorship and democratized publishing online; he reports that a spokesperson said the company had no comment at this time.

Do yourself a favor before you talk in absolutes concerning free speech on a network that claims it has codes on conduct. it is very sad that people spend so much time on a social network without checking the terms. facebook has a policy already of censorship. I’m not asking for censorship of twitter that has no such policy. bias against Jews here is disturbing if you are already aware of the terms. obviously a private company is capable of doing as they please. that is not the issue. the issue is that facebook has terms that they ask us to uphold and they selectively enforce for example pornography or hostility towards women, but further the causes of Nazis. if facebook wants to enforce such rules as no nudity or Gloria Steinem rhetoric then they are already creating a code of conduct. this is merely enabling hate speech towards Jews arbitrarily. it is orchestrated prejudice. check the facebook terms if you don’t believe me. there is also the matter of anti trust considering the size of facebook it infringes on the public.

For those that question my free speech credentials… I spent much time at Carnegie Mellon University petitioning the college to not censor the internet of pornography in 1994 and the activities of myself and our organization made the Village Voice, Time Magazine, Newsweek as well as the NYTimes. I have newspaper photos and clippings of the event against Martin Rimm from the year. look up Martin Rimm on the internet. It was myself who petitioned the college and designed all the signs. I’m not asking for censorship…. I’m against arbitrary enforcement of terms. that is a very different thing.

…and speaking of arbitrary terms. facebook employees use fake names. just thought you should know that as well. many activists against hate crimes on the internet also use fake names and facebook went out of their way to destroy their accounts and left up Barry Chuckle. Barry Chuckle is obviously not a real name. they ask any Jew online if their name is real, but any NAZI they leave alone. This is selective prejudice. very simple. this is just more Obama culture… and we are going to throw these people out of power. not just in government, but in social media.

if the person who quoted Chomsky had read anything about Chomsky they would know there isn’t anything systematic about language according to the axioms of Chomsky. Language doesn’t have meaning through systematic method. you can’t prove or disprove semiotics. it is simply understood. to be so obtuse and dry as to pretend that meaning is a mathematical science because you quote Chomsky is an immediate sign of bias. I have asked facebook to be true to free speech for years now. Now I am humbly asking them to at least to be socially responsible with their supposed “discretion”. the fact that they are neither and are in conflict with their own terms is a good argument for AntiTrust laws to be used. I disagree with the expansive mindset of facebook, but the argument is that they are supposedly creating a better environment for communication. enabling hate speech is in conflict with their own arguments. I happen to disagree with their claim that they can censor, but now it seems even their censorship is random and hate based. we would love for facebook to have free speech! what we have instead is populism. facebook caters to the tyranny of the mob. that isn’t freedom. What has happened is Holocaust denial has become hip enough that facebook is allowing it. In the same respect nudity has become culturally taboo in a majority of circles and therefor facebook censors it. In the same respect Jewish Conservative groups go down all the time. for crying out loud! how is this free speech? if facebook wants to enact a policy of free speech I would support it, but if they are not then it is the users interest to influence facebook into responsible behavior.

Something needs to be done. facebook needs to give people the ability to rate their pages and each post. I can’t be responsible because I wake up one morning and decide to describe a bodily function on TWITTER because I’m in a bad mood.

I TWITTER everything that goes into my head… and I’m getting into the habit of it… I post things I wouldn’t tell my own mother.
I’m not an extrovert…. I’m willing for people to hate me. I’m not running for office and no one will ever hurt me because I’m next door to the chief of police and the mayor of the town I live in. But they are going too far when they throw me off for breaking the “TERMS” and then don’t describe what I infringed. It was probably my artwork…. and if an academic community had problems with it they shouldn’t of given me a degree.

My Alumni email wasn’t working this weekend suspiciously… and now it is working. It is as if they are looking into me… trying to see if they have anything… then they get paranoid and turned that off. Now it is working again.

Or maybe those PR agencies Chapel pissed off got to her.
This is quite frightening that people can just arbitrarily make an accusation and destroy your reputation. I have heard that the border police have access to your facebook and myspace account. I don’t know if you know people in this arena… but something has to change. People can not be under surveillance like this. I really wish the Democrats would try to be reasonable. I am beginning to think I might have to vote for Hilary. I’m a Republican… but I think the Republicans think that Corporate Socialism is freedom. I really hate the Clintons too. A security state supported by high taxes is not what “Republicanism” is about. Republicans are for the Republic. Republicans support allies of their republic. Republicans are for policies that support the people. If the Democrats are for a feminist security state… something Rudy Giuliani was in league with when with Donna Hanover…, the Rupublicans seem to want a corporate and religious security state. The alarm bells are going off when I hear about security on it’s own citizens. I’m not talking about not protecting the borders… I’m talking about our rights as citizens and our tax dollars going towards our own oppression. I don’t want a feminist security state either. I don’t want a security state. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life within my own house being worried about if I say the wrong thing to the wrong girl. Sticks and Stones can hurt your bones, but names will never hurt you. You get that BITCH?
